COVERAGE FOR DELIVEROO

Third of Brits have same lunch every day – and this is the most popular meal

  • Do you mix it up, or are you a creature of habit?

When it comes to lunch, we’re a less than inventive bunch. Apparently, one in three Brits enjoy the same meal every day.

Sure, time is hard to find. Food is getting costlier. Can we really blame ourselves for perpetuating the ham sandwich?

Research by Deliveroo found that a third of the country’s workforce eats the same thing every day, and it’s the ham sandwich, the simple pleasure that it is, which is most popular.

The takeaway delivery service polled 1,500 workers as part of its “lame lunch amnesty”. Obviously, being a food company, it wants people to be a little more adventurous with their daily bread – and use its app to find inspiration.

Deliveroo says that of those quizzed, 70 percent admitted that they are stuck in a lunch time rut. After the ham sandwich came first only to cheese, tuna, both of which were closely followed by egg mayonnaise.

Four in ten confessed that they’re often jealous of their colleagues when 1pm swings round. Or at least those who eat something different. But then 16 per cent added that they can’t be bothered to do anything about it.

A quarter of employees are now said to eat ‘al desko’ too, which limits things. Tucking into spaghetti bolognese and a glass of Chianti is not entirely practical while watching cat videos just two offices away from the big boss.

One in twenty, the study said, eat lunch in their car.

Dan Warne, Managing Director of Deliveroo, said: “This research highlights how many of the British workforce eat really boring, unimaginative meals for lunch on repeat.”

Despite a lack in creativity, it’s not that food itself is boring. Nearly half of participants said what everybody’s having for lunch is a hot topic of conversation. Apparently we talk about it, on average, for 13 minutes a day.

It takes us around 17 minutes to eat, Deliveroo said.

Here’s Britain’s top ten lunches:

  4. Egg mayo sandwich
  5. Superfood salad
  6. Spicy chicken wrap
