COVERAGE FOR ‘DAY OUT WITH THE KIDS’
Bournemouth tops list of UK’s most loved beaches
Holidaymakers take note, Bournemouth has been named the UK’s best beach.
According to a new study conducted by Day Out With the Kids, the southern hotspot ticks all of the boxes when it comes to a summer getaway.
Nearby Brighton came in second place with Torquay and Weymouth following closely behind.
While Blackpool represented the north at number five courtesy of the famous Pleasure Beach, array of moreish chippies and a plethora of old school penny slots.
But what else are people looking for in a seaside break?
Beaches are unsurprisingly the most important factor to consider when it comes to booking a long weekend with 85% of us on the lookout for a clean, sandy place to (hopefully) sunbathe.
Of course, fish and chips are also high on the agenda with 70% of holidaymakers considering themselves chippy connaisseurs.
While child-friendly places are equally as important with a number of families sure to flock to the beach during the school holidays.
Despite the great British weather, a decent amount of sunshine is also crucial for 65% of families with toilets close to the beach also pleasing 63% of us.
Other factors that need to be taken into consideration include amusement arcades (48%), a pier (48%), a Mr Whippy ice cream (40%) and sticks of pastel-hued rock to take home (15%).
Interestingly, the study also revealed that 76% of Brits believe a day trip to the seaside is one of the best things you can do as a family with a number of parents hoping to recreate their childhood (25% of us hold fond memories of the beach).
But we’re no longer heading overseas on the hunt for sea air, as 42% of Brits would actually prefer to stay home over summer instead of heading abroad.
While a further 88% of us would even consider moving to the seaside.
